Communities That Care

Communities That Care is an evidence-based initiative that targets problem behaviours in young people through addressing risk and protective factors in the community.   One of the strategies that CTC program in the LGA of Baw Baw are focussing on is aspirations and education engagement.

With the inclusion of Broadening Horizons in to the CTC initiative, the following strategies have been discussed and both approved via the Department of Education members who sit with the CTC board:

  1. Endorse and support school engagement with the Broadening Horizons framework via the West Gippsland Principals Network (WGPN) Meeting and further, private discussions between DET members and school leaders- when the need arises within individual schools.

  2. To propose CTC as an industry partner to develop a youth led strategy for youth engagement within the Baw Baw community.th interest.

Other partnerships that have been critical to progressing the Broadening Horizons Program include the partnership with the University of Melbourne’s micro-credentialing pilot, the Latrobe Valley Authority, who have worked closely with the Broadening Horizons program to introduce industry partnerships and the Department of Education who have worked closely with the program to authorise and support the involvement of primary and secondary schools within the Gippsland region.
